CALHOUN COMMUNITY COLLEGE SHOWBAND HOSTS FREE CONCERT FOR THE COMMUNITY ON APRIL 13
The Calhoun Community College Showband is excited to announce a FREE concert for the community. The show will be held on Thursday, April 13th in the Performing Arts Building of the Alabama Center for the Arts in Downtown Decatur at 7:00 p.m.
According to Dr. Matt Leder, Calhoun Showband Instructor, The concert will include a variety of musical selections from several genres such as Shake your body by Justin Timberlake, Lady Marmalade by Pink, Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Mýa, as well as some country and brass band tunes. Guest Saxophonist and Director of Jazz Studies/ Associate Professor of Music at Troy University in Alabama, Dr. Dave Camwell, will also join in the performance. A special tribute to the late Jazz Legend, Wayne Shorter, will also be included during the concert, which will feature his hit song Infant Eyes.
The Showband consists of current Calhoun students who practice and perform musical selections ranging from R&B, Rock, Country, Jazz, New Orleans-style Brass Band, and Soul, as well as everything in between. The newly formed band began last year and is currently recruiting for its next set of band members. With 30 full scholarships still available for the fall semester, individuals who are planning to come to Calhoun and have musical talents are encouraged to apply.
