Join AshaKiran, the University of Alabama in Huntsville Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs and Office of Womens & Gender Studies, Alabama Dept. of Rehabilitation Services (ADRS) and the Alabama Institute for Deaf & Blind (AIDB) for the annual AshaKiran Cultural Competency Conference 2018 with this years’ focus on Improving Outcomes for Individuals with Disabilities Experiencing Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Human Trafficking. This workshop is intended to increase participants’ awareness of the cultural barriers for individuals with disabilities that impact recovery, accessing mainstream victims’ services, law enforcement and other systems. The goal will be to develop more effective tools aimed at serving and supporting individuals with disabilities who have suffered from domestic violence and/or sexual assault. 1Touch™ Project will also provide an opportunity for interactive self-defense techniques & strategies specifically designed for individuals with disabilities. General admission for this conference is $20 which includes lunch and materials. UAH Students can attend for free with registration. Continuing education credits available for nurses, social workers, counselors and certified rehabilitation counselors. Registration deadline is March 5 2018.
